Part I - Pulling Down Strongholds

Deciphering the Mystery of Lawlessness

It is appropriate to begin this investigation into the meaning and consequences of lawlessness by reviewing the most specific biblical reference on this topic, which of course, is the second chapter of Paul's second letter to the Thessalonians.  The first four verses do not speak directly of lawlessness but they do mention the falling away, which likely refers to a falling away from God and His law.  The references to the Man of Sin and the Son of Perdition in verses three and four are linked directly to the Lawless One in the subsequent verses.  Because the timing of end-time events is not the focus of this book, the timing of the rapture and the actual coming of the Lawless One will not be addressed; although, some puzzling characteristics of the Lawless One will be discussed in the last chapter.
"Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.  Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the Man of Sin is revealed, the Son of Perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?  And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.  For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.  And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." - II Thess. 2:1-12
We can draw six facts from this Scripture pertaining to lawlessness.  These are listed below and will be examined individually.
1. The epitome of lawlessness (the Lawless One) opposes God and all that is called God or is worshiped as God; even presenting himself as a counterfeit God.
2. Lawlessness was already at work in the world at the time of Paul's letter.
3. Lawlessness will be cloaked in deception.
4. Deliverance from perishing will be afforded by loving the truth.
5. The delusion will be strong.
6. The deception is tied to pleasure in what is unrighteous.
1. The epitome of lawlessness (the Lawless One) opposes God and all that is called God or is worshiped as God; even presenting himself as a counterfeit God.
All sin opposes God.  This is why, after the murder of Uriah and his affair with Bathsheba, King David confessed to God; "Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight." - Psalm 51:4 We must recognize that God is a God of law and order, while Satan is the source of lawlessness and chaos.  The word 'lawless' (Gr. anomos) is the opposite of law (Gr. nomos).  Anomos is used in the Bible to mean both "without law," and "to transgress the law."  Lawlessness is fundamentally opposed to God, so that we should expect that the lawless leader would also oppose Him.
Now the fact that the Lawless One opposes all that is called God and is worshipped indicates his disdain, not only for God, but for every form of religion.  Religion has historically been considered one of man's basic needs.  This assumption has been predicated on the fact that every culture has sought an object of worship.  An awareness of the spiritual realm and of a cosmic designer is intuitive to the human psyche.  As the Nineteenth Psalm states;
"The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
Their sound has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world."  - Psalm 19:1-4
The Apostle Paul goes so far as to say ignorance of God is inexcusable "because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.  For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead." - Rom. 1:19-20
Mankind has always concluded that some spiritual force, some invisible hand, must be behind the experiences of premonitions, coincidences, and the consequences related to unrighteous behavior.  People have sought a variety of ways to please and appease "the gods."  In fact, few individuals, and no post-deluvian civilizations (other than the Marxist states of the twentieth century) have been predominantly godless.  But instead of acknowledging the reasonableness of mankind's awareness of God's existence, the behavioral scientists have only been willing to concede that all peoples possess some unexplainable need for religion.
Nevertheless, the Lawless One will deplore man's awareness of God and detest his desire to worship anything called God - anything, that is, but himself.  So we find in this verse that the Lawless One will prefer either Atheism, or that he alone should be worshiped as God.  Thus it is clear that the way for the Lawless One will be prepared by the so-called religion of Atheism.  And if he should have a forerunner to prepare the way, a John-the-Baptist if you will, we might expect that he is already among us based on the growing popularity of Atheism.
2. Lawlessness was already at work in the world at the time of Paul's letter.
When Paul wrote, "the mystery of lawlessness," he was not using the word "mystery" to indicate that lawlessness was only a vague term to him, or that it was some indefinable concept.  What is meant by the mystery of lawlessness?  The Bible indicates three usages of the word "mystery."  Jesus said that His parables were given so that the truths being presented might be understood by some, and disregarded by others.  We might think of the parables as a type of filter that would enable people who possess the capacity to receive the truth of God to indeed hear His words; while at the same time, allowing those who were ambivalent toward God to entirely miss the meaning of the same words.
"And the disciples came and said to Him, ‘Why do You speak to them in parables?’  He answered and said to them, ‘Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.  For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.  Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.’" – Matt. 13:10-13
"All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:
‘I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world.’" – Matt. 13:34-35
Another example of this type of discretionary mystery is found in I Corinthians 2:6-8:
"However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory."
Another usage of the word "mystery" has to do with God's timing in revealing secret things.  When taken in this sense, mysteries do not depend on individual receptivity.  These mysteries might come through divine revelation or be gradually revealed over the course of history.  Romans 16:25-26 gives an example of this type of mystery.
"Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith."
A third usage of "mystery" denotes concepts which are beyond human comprehension and may be so complex that they can only be known by God.  A sufficient example of this usage is provided by I Timothy 3:16.  "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory."
Clearly, the coming of the Lawless One involves timing because Paul states that the Lawless One will come in his own time.  But the fact that lawlessness was already working in the world during Paul's lifetime would indicate that this mystery is only somewhat, and not entirely, dependent on the passage of time for its revelation.  Neither can we say that there will come a time when lawlessness will become so apparent that it is no longer a mystery.  This conclusion is drawn from the fact that even when the Lawless One is revealed, the working of lawlessness will remain concealed to such an extent that mankind will be easily led to believe in the lie.
So then, the Lawless One will be revealed in due time, but the mystery of lawlessness will remain sufficiently veiled as to present a strong delusion.  Therefore, since the working of lawlessness is relatively independent of time, and because even at the end of the age it will not be easily detected, it is reasonable to proceed with our investigation of lawlessness assuming that the working of lawlessness is called a mystery based on its spiritual nature.
Paul's writings contain several references to evil spiritual forces.  He most often refers to these forces as principalities, powers, and authorities, which reside in heavenly places; that is to say, these forces are unseen or lurk in an outer dimension.  They are nonetheless very real and are working dynamically in their efforts to undermine the kingdom of God and His people.  The most elaborate Bible verse that identifies these various evil spiritual forces is Ephesians 6:12.
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
Although Paul discourages man's search for the hierarchy and lineage of angelic beings, he does, nonetheless, present here an array of four distinct spiritual enemies.  Each of these are represented in the plural: rulers or principalities (Gr. archas), authorities or powers (Gr. exousias), world-rulers (Gr. kosmokratoras), and wicked spiritual beings (Gr. pneumatika poneras).
The New King James Version has translated the first term, archas, as principalities.  Some insight into this word is provided by the following selection from the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia.
"In the New Testament "principality" occurs for arche, "rule," generally in the plural, referring to men in authority (Titus 3:1, "Put them in mind to be subject (the King James Version; "in subjection," the Revised Version (British and American)) to principalities (the King James Version; "rulers," the Revised Version (British and American)), and powers" (the King James Version; "to authorities," the Revised Version (British and American)); to superhuman agencies, angelic or demonic (Romans 8:38; Ephesians 3:10; 6:12; Colossians 1:16; 2:10,15).  Paul was keenly sensible of the dualism of mind and body and of the law in his members warring against the law of his mind (Romans 7:23), and of the temporary victory of the evil, residing in the flesh, over the good of the spirit (Romans 7:14).  This dualism was objectified in Zoroastrianism, and among the Babylonians the several heavenly bodies were regarded as ruled by spirits, some good, and some evil.  The same belief, appropriated by the Jews during the captivity, appears also in Greek thought, as e.g. in Plato and later in the Stoics.  The higher spheres, which hold the even tenor of their way, were in general regarded as ruled by good spirits; but in the sublunar sphere, to which the earth belongs, ill-regulated motions prevail, which must be due to evil spirits.  The perversities of human conduct, in particular, thwarting, as was thought, the simple, intelligible divine plan, was held to be subject to rebellious powers offering defiance to God."7
Paul identifies the rebellious powers, or subversive authorities, by the second key word in our text - exousias.  The last two terms in our study of spiritual mysteries from the Ephesians text can only be understood in full by including their surrounding Greek modifiers.
The most specific translation of the compound word "world-rulers" is given by the Scripture4all Online Interlinear8 as: "the system-holders of the darkness of this age."  This same online resource offers the expanded translation of wicked spiritual beings as: "spiritual forces of wickedness among the celestial ones."
Now having examined the mystery of lawlessness and concluded that Paul has deemed lawlessness to be a mystery because of its spiritual nature, let us go a step further and suppose that lawlessness is an evil spiritual principle - a unique system with one or more spiritual beings championing its cause and guiding its campaign to overthrow man's regard for God and His law.  But we receive consolation in this epistle to the Thessalonians that the Lawless One will, along with Satan and all of his other demonic agents, be destroyed by the Lord at His coming.  "And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming." – II Thess. 2:8
3. Lawlessness will be cloaked in deception.
Christians are obsessed with identifying the Son of Perdition instead of recognizing the real and present danger of the insidious spiritual system which is already working to prepare the way for the Lawless One.  Christians have stretched their imaginations to the limit contemplating a bigger-than-life Man of Sin, whom they perceive is poised to appear in a future fantasia.  Yet they have given little heed to the examination of the forces of darkness already at work, and which are destroying the real world around them.  The gradual introduction of lawlessness has been the greatest contributor to man's oversight.  Lawlessness leads to ever greater lawlessness, as Paul states in his Letter to the Romans.
"For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness." -  Rom. 6:19
Once received and accepted into the public mindset, lawlessness grows like a destroying cancer.  The Apostle John wrote, "Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness" – I John 3:4.  Due to the fact that all other references in the New Testament to leaven refer to sin, it is believed by many Bible commentators that He was speaking of the spread of sin among the people of God when Jesus said: "To what shall I liken the kingdom of God?  It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened."- Luke 13:21 And again in Paul's writings; "Your glorying is not good.  Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?" – 1 Cor. 5:6 This destructive agent of sin in the camp might have been behind Jesus' haunting question; "When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?" - Luke 18:8b
4. Deliverance from perishing will be afforded by loving the truth.
Our verses from Second Thessalonians clearly state that those who perish will do so because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  In His parable of the sower, Jesus compared the receptive heart to good soil.  The good and noble heart welcomes the gospel message which speaks of God's love toward men.  Although a skeptic might reason that he lacks sufficient evidence to rely on God's goodness, an unbiased person should nevertheless at least want to believe he is loved and accepted by his Creator.  A predetermination to reject God's love exposes a problem of the heart.  Jesus said that people reject God primarily because they do honestly believe that God is good, but they also realize that they have sinned.  Furthermore, being aware of the incompatibility of their sin and God's goodness, they make a conscious rejection of God so that they might continue in sin.
Here are Jesus' words: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed." - John 3:16-20
In the latter chapters of this book we will discuss God's grace and the Christian life.  But it is sufficient for now to know that the Holy Spirit leads the believer into all truth so that he might recognize deception, and cling to what is true.  Paul affirms in Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."  Chapter eight of Romans goes on to give express assurance that the spiritual forces of wickedness cannot overpower or undo the saving love of Christ that God demonstrated through the cross.
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." – Rom. 8:38-39 (Emphasis added)
5. The delusion will be strong.
Perhaps the most sobering aspect of the deception of lawlessness is this warning that it will be powerful.  It is one thing to be gullible, but quite another to be tricked by skillful slight-of-hand.  And there is no greater master of deception than the father of lies.
Just consider some of the systemic inversions of good for evil, and evil for good, that have already crept into twenty-first century culture:
  • Instead of representing everything excellent, holy, and true; the name of Jesus is offensive, irrelevant, and to be avoided in the public setting.
  • The unconditional love that comes only from God, and flows through those who have experienced God's perfect love, has been replaced by the axiom that being non-judgmental is the highest form of love.
  • Respecting authority and honoring parents has been replaced by the mindset that all authority is innately evil and authority figures should be ignored or belittled.
  • Self-denial is harmful, but wholeness is achieved by building up self-esteem.
  • Instead of abundant life through the indwelling Holy Spirit, a zestful biological life is pursued through the exhilaration of experimentation, the anticipation of change, and throwing off the bonds of inhibition and self-control.
  • Instead of freedom from sin, freedom is the rejection of every restriction which might limit self-expression.
  • Progressive liberalism will lead to freedom, but conservatism will only bind the hands of progress.
  • Instead of preparing for eternity with God, individuality is the manifest destiny of the human race.
The deception that lawlessness is true freedom is both the great appeal, and the foundation stone, of Satan's strong delusion.  The desire to empower the self-centered soul drives mankind away from God's lordship, and unwittingly leads him directly into the snare of the devil.  Today, the omnipotent authoritarian government of the Lord God has been rejected as ludicrous because it is contrary to society's inordinate obsession with individual freedom.  The whole concept of lordship has become totally unacceptable and even vulgar to the emancipated Humanist spirit.  The strong delusion of lawlessness will not prevail against the true Church, but it has already overtaken a majority of the populations of America and Europe.
6. The deception is tied to pleasure in what is unrighteous.
Apart from outright Satanism, two other spiritual systems incline their followers to lust after material pleasure.  One is the anti-religion of Atheism.  The other is the philosophical religion of dualism.  Both of these systems were at work in the world before the lifetime of Paul.  Atheism promotes immorality by denying God's existence, whereas dualism inadvertently encourages immorality by placing God so far from the practical world that His existence becomes irrelevant.
Because of man's innate awareness of God, and the observable evidence of a designer-constructor of the universe, Atheism has historically been rare.  The Romans persecuted the Christians during the first centuries of the church partially because they considered them to be Atheists who refused to worship the Roman deities.  Atheism and dualism were both formulated to deal with the disparity between the philosopher's abstract god of goodness, and the presence of evil and suffering in the real world.  We will review these philosophies later in this book when we look at their origins and consider their influence on the Renaissance and the Enlightenment.
But for now, our focus is on how these philosophies tend to influence morality.  Pure Atheism is never long-lived.  In the absence of any other god, man quickly exalts himself to the position of god so that Atheism is transformed into Humanism.  And as we have already stated, fallen humanity will always prefer lawlessness.  Nevertheless, because the individual does not live in a vacuum, he must settle for a "controlled" lawlessness.  Godless political engineers have proposed various utopian states in which man might enjoy the carnal benefits of lawlessness without being restricted by the law or interrupted by his neighbor.
One of the foremost branches of Classical Greek philosophy was developed by Epicurus.  Epicurus formulated an alternative to Stoicism that focused on human happiness.  The Epicureans believed that happiness was the greatest virtue.  Happiness was to be achieved by applying reason in order to experience the greatest pleasure, while avoiding as much pain as possible.  Epicurus freely expressed his rejection of God by posing the following series of questions to justify the gratification of his flesh.
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?  Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?  Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"9
Paul was familiar with ancient Greek culture and the classical philosophers.  Paul addressed the Epicureans at Mars Hill while in Athens.  While explaining God's answer to the question of evil, Paul combined the quotes of two different Greek authors when he said; "though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'" – Acts 17:27-28
The first citation was taken from the writings of Epimenides, a Greek philosopher from the Island of Crete, who wrote these words around the sixth century B.C.:
"They fashioned a tomb for you, holy and high one,
Cretans, always liars, evil beasts, idle bellies.
But you are not dead: you live and abide forever,
For in you we live and move and have our being."10
The latter part of Paul's statement was a line from a poem by Aratus, a poet from Paul’s own country of Cilicia.  Aratus penned these words in 277 B.C.:
"Let us begin with Zeus, whom we mortals never leave unspoken.
For every street, every market-place is full of Zeus.
Even the sea and the harbor are full of this deity.
Everywhere, everyone is indebted to Zeus.
For we are indeed his offspring ..."11
Paul answered the Epicureans' question of evil by assuring them that God "has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man [Jesus] whom He has ordained.  He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead." - Acts 17:31  So in His own time, and in His own way, the living God has already resolved the question of evil by appointing a day on which He will judge evil and restore the world from its corrupted condition.
Idealistic philosophy simply cannot deal with a real God who has His own plans and purposes.  Fallen man is always looking for a loophole to justify his alienation from God, grasping at any excuse that will mask his conscience from the guilt of sin.  It is for this reason that "God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." – II Thess. 2:11   Mankind looks to his own rickety philosophical arguments with dishonest motives, hoping to rationalize his unrighteous behavior.  But God, who knows the true motives of the heart, will judge unrepentant sinners while they are yet in the act of justifying their sin, by allowing them to believe in the very lies which they have chosen.
"With the pure You will show Yourself pure,
And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd." - Psalm 18:26
Many Christians have imagined that all things would continue the same, just as they have from the time of our fathers - right up until the moment of the rapture.  But no one can deny at this point, that religious beliefs, as well as attitudes toward government and God, are in an unprecedented state of upheaval.  A monstrous admixture consisting of Atheism and the religion known as Humanism has come to life and suddenly risen to its feet.  Atheism, dualism, and Epicureanism are all manifestations of the mystery of lawlessness.  These spiritual systems had already infiltrated Grecian Judaism, and were working their way into the church during the lifetime of the Apostles.  Our study will follow the progress of these religious and philosophical systems over the course of Church History.  Not only has the world become more susceptible to being deceived by such an aberrant god; at the same time, the spiritual landscape that was once conducive to Christianity has become parched and unproductive.
At the time of Christ, the spiritual soil of the Eastern Mediterranean was made white for the harvest by three important nutrients: (1) a knowledge of God's historical work among the Jews which was still common among the nations surrounding Israel, (2) the age-old religious tendency to acknowledge and worship God helped prepare the hearts of the God-fearers for the gospel, and (3) respect for authority provided the basis upon which the law might act as a tutor to lead souls to Christ.
Today in the west these three ingredients have been nearly fully depleted.  This reduction is not accidental.  It is directly attributable to the principalities and evil forces of darkness which were assigned to this mission from millennia past.  These system-holders have shifted the paradigm; they have broken the system - in order to prepare the way for Son of Perdition.  Christians must face the reality that the world has changed since the time of our fathers; and it has changed drastically.  We must also honestly admit that without the testimony of God (the Bible), without the fear of the Lord, and without respect for authority - it's not coming back.

Introduction

A dark freedom has invaded western culture.  A sinister freedom appealing to the rebellious soul like the seductress of Proverbs.  She whispers, "’Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.’  But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Hell." - Prov. 9:17-18 Today's freedom represents neither the Old Testament concept of freedom from ungodly peoples, nor the New Testament freedom from the enemies of sin, death, and eternal separation from God.  The new face of freedom is the liberty of self expression - a personal freedom that perceives as its adversary every form of restriction.
Ungodliness has been raised up as a victory banner for the cause of individual rights.  Even the Classical Greek philosophers equated virtue with wisdom, integrity, and goodness.  "If it feels good, do it," was the mantra of the Hippie Movement.  Today any kind of strong feeling will do.  The thrill of transgressing the ancient boundaries of moral decency has been reclassified as a good and acceptable feeling.  Outrageousness, rebelliousness, and ungodliness are applauded by social and mainstream media as if they were the highest virtues.  "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" - Isaiah 5:20.
For more than two decades disrespect for parents and disregard for authority have been ingrained into the minds of preschoolers through cartoons, television and video games.  "Choices" and relativism are drummed into their core with the intent that, at some point early in life, they might have their own born-again experience - a confession of faith in a god of random possibilities, a god who never judges, a god who accepts all ideals and chooses all people, a god who is in all ways the antithesis of the God of the Bible.
Proverbs 22:6 holds true, for better or worse; "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."  Most publically educated and television trained children will truly believe in the god of lawlessness by the time they reach the age of accountability.  And when some of these young citizens of the lawless kingdom come into the Christian church, they will naturally heap up for themselves teachers adept at avoiding the issues of law, sin, judgment, and Hell.  The relevance of these Biblical realities has been relegated to chat room discussions by the Emergent Church.  Sin has become the topic of open-ended "conversations" which have cast doubt upon the critical doctrine of judgment.  Indeed, the relativists have banished all of the doctrines pertaining to God's justice to that modern intellectual purgatory known as, "the grey area."
The grey area of relativism has turned out to be the perfect soil for lawlessness.  That murky grey cesspool was created specifically by clever litigators to blur the distinction between right and wrong.  Nothing is true, nothing is certain, nothing is pure.  All that was once sacred and beautiful has been thrown into the depths of the nebulous of sea grey.
A recent example can be found in the incredible popularity of a book by E. L. James entitled Fifty Shades of Grey.2  One commentator in the New York Post marveled that a book which only two years ago was placed in a paper bag by a bookstore cashier because people were too embarrassed to be seen in public with it, has now become a blockbuster movie, and there is even a teddy bear that is being sold with "accessories"!
According to the news article, "Target has a new line tied to the movie - from blindfolds to massage oils to sex toys. It was set up right next to kids’ toothbrushes, but under pressure the store moved it. Usually when we talk about cultural shifts we are referring to changes that happen over 30 or 40 or 50 years, but this is a change that has happened virtually overnight, while we were all supposedly paying attention.
So, let’s just take a step back and consider what we’ve lost in shedding just one more taboo.  The movie is rated R, so many teenagers (even those under 17) will probably get in. As child psychiatrist Miriam Grossman wrote on her blog recently, "Fifty Shades of Grey" teaches your daughter that pain and humiliation are erotic, and your son that girls want a guy who controls, intimidates and threatens.
"In short, the film portrays emotional and physical abuse as sexually arousing to both parties."
And then there are the adults.  Educated people used to say they didn’t care what other people did "in the privacy of their own bedroom." (Note how quickly the gray turned to black among so-called "educated people" in this commentary.)
But we have clearly left that standard behind.  There is nothing private about the way that people are enjoying "Fifty Shades" and yes, frankly, that is creepy. Especially the bear."3
If all of this hasn’t made you sick yet, the author’s blasphemous use of "Anastasia" for the female character, which is the Greek word for "resurrection," and "Christian" for the male character, will certainly sum up the cesspool of evil and lawlessness that our culture currently embraces.
The ominous feeling that something has gone terribly wrong is grounded in fact.  Something has indeed changed.  It is the sudden rise of Atheism - a religion that has seldom before been widely accepted, believed, or practiced.  Throughout history and throughout the world people have typically believed in some sort of god.  Even during the Renaissance and the Enlightenment most philosophers were at least Deists.  A few were skeptics or pantheists, but very few rejected the notion of a Creator who was the sustainer of life and the judge of mortal affairs.
We all knew something was happening but we thought it was just another passing youthful craze.  After all, haven't kids always been rebellious?  We should have felt the world beginning to tip upside down when calling someone "straight" became a derogatory expression.  It began with drugs and free love, and the acceptance of unmarried partners living together.  Through the progressive breakdown of personal integrity a nation of compromised Christians emerged.  They considered themselves to be disqualified - unfit to take a stand on the side of righteousness because of their own moral failures.  Soon the Moral Majority became the demoralized majority, which then further degenerated into the present immoral majority.
Longstanding laws of the land have either been changed or reinterpreted by the courts to accommodate sin.  The progressive liberals have successfully removed prayer and the Bible from public institutions, and they have removed every Judeo-Christian symbol that can be easily moved from the public square.  The Atheists' attack on our school system has been so effective that most people under forty are convinced that, if there is a God, His government would be harmful, repressive, and retard mankind's quest of reaching its highest potential.  Thus, in today's America, God, who is good, is deemed to be evil.
The propensity of the flesh to press inward toward its own self-interest and to resist outward authority has certainly propelled fallen man toward lawlessness.  Once alienated from his Creator, the rebellious spirit became part of man's nature.  The spirit of rebellion compels the independent soul to war against his Maker.  To lose the battle of selfishness would mean surrendering to the authority of God.  Lawlessness, on the other hand, is just what fallen man has always wanted.  Lawlessness creates an environment in which the sinner can fulfill his wildest dreams.  No rules.  No fear.  No consequences.  Most of America's youth have already bought the T-shirt.
Dark freedom means freedom to experiment, freedom to sin, freedom from conscience, and freedom from God.  Meanwhile, the remnant who still cling to Judeo-Christian ethics look on in dismay as the citizens of the Western nations surrender all of their other rights for the right to sin.  The irresistible lure and promise of lawlessness is that man might be set free to live as if there were no God.  For this reason, pure lawlessness is Atheism.  Lawlessness is next to godlessness.
Due to the failure of the institutional Church to follow in the path of Christ and His Apostles, the world has lashed back by constructing its own versions of religion.  In many ways the rise of lawlessness can be explained by the historically reliable principle of action-reaction.  Mankind's reversion to the Humanities, and the creation of alternate forms of government and religion, can be directly attributed to the Roman Church's attempt to dominate the western world.  The Renaissance of the Humanities was merely a renewed attempt by philosophers to solve the complex issues of human existence.
Fallen men around the world have formed many gods; some of metal, wood, and stone.  But others have been constructed in the imagination of philosophers.  Man has attempted to make these philosophical gods stand by propping them up with human reason.  From the time of the Classical Greek philosophers, man has tried to unravel the complexity of his body, soul, and spirit, coming up with many conjectures, none of which have stood the test of time and reason.  But these are not gods; they are lifeless abstractions - a "god in a box."
God, His law, and civil government are inextricably related.  This is why the ancient philosophers' interests were primarily focused on the existence of God, morality, and the study of political systems.  Variations in man's perspective regarding civil and divine authority must always result in changes affecting both the social and the religious systems.
The Western Church has diminished the perceived authority of God by embracing the philosophical god of goodness.  An ideal god that is too good to judge.  A universal goodness devoid of power to do anything.  Today's nominal Christians are disowning the Lord God and following after this theoretical god; an inanimate god who sees nothing, hears nothing, and knows nothing.  The philosophical god is as unlike the living God as the idols of ancient times.
"But their idols are silver and gold,
made by human hands.
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
They have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell.
They have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but cannot walk,
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them." - Psalm 115:4-8 NIV4
And those who make them will be like them!  That is, the worshipers of the abstract god will be without discernment, without knowledge, and without judgment.  Likewise, those who imitate this god believe that it is wrong to distinguish differences, that it is wrong to claim truth, and wrong to judge anyone.  But our God is the living God; the Father God; the Lord God who is the judge of heaven and earth - the judge of the living and the dead.  Thus, this dark freedom called lawlessness has one great and dreaded enemy - the reality of the true and living God.
If you've ever wanted to know what went wrong with western culture and why morality has been cast to the winds, this book is for you.  We will walk through the last three thousand years of Western World History, isolating those destabilizing errors of philosophy and religion which have slowly but surely led the world into darkness.  Each area of history and philosophy is developed so the reader can easily grasp their contribution to the overall progress of lawlessness.
Part I of this book explores what the Apostle Paul meant by calling lawlessness a mystery.  The second chapter introduces some of the devil’s most effective spiritual programs for undermining the Christian faith.  The third chapter exposes these strongholds of darkness with the light of the testimony of the living God.  Part I concludes with an introduction to the wisdom of man expressed by the Classical philosophers of Ancient Greece.
Part II looks into the Institutional Church and its failures, which were sufficient to open the door to honest criticism.  These chapters do not present a thorough history of the Church, but they do provide enough information for the reader to gain an understanding of the disasters that spawned the Renaissance, Reformation, and Enlightenment.
Each chapter of Part III increases the reader's insight producing stunning revelations - epiphanies the reader will never forget.  Who is the God of the Bible and what does His kingdom look like?  He is the God of law and order.  His government and His chain of authority on earth are modeled after the Godhead.  Part III concludes by addressing the current confusion regarding God's laws and His grace.  Do the Mosaic laws still apply?  If so, how can Christians know which ones to obey?
Part IV brings the knowledge gleaned from all the previous chapters to a laser-sharp focus.  This fourth section reveals the morbid destiny reached by metaphysics when it is carried to its logical end.  Most readers will be also be surprised to learn of the demonic foundation of today's common law.  The Humanists are determined to implement their limited and issue-specific theories to create their own law and order - but they can never be perfected without enslaving mankind.
Part V entertains some of the more plausible conspiracy theories concerning the organizations which might be employed by Satan to prepare the way for the Lawless One.  Many Christians would hesitate to say that the end of the age is at hand.  But the sudden swell in lawlessness and Satan's aggressive campaign against the Church certainly support the suspicion that Satan knows that his time is short.  How much of the present attack against conservative Christians is directly from Satan, and how much is the work of sinister societies?  Without doubt, the most obvious agency for breaking western conservatism is exposed by Anatoliy Golitsyn in The Perestroika Deception.5
This book relies heavily on the nineteenth century Church historian Philip Schaff.  Schaff has been accused by Protestant critics of having a bias toward Catholicism because of his presentation of evidence that the practice of infant baptism, the reliance on interceding saints, and the adoration of Mary were all embraced by Christianity before the Roman Catholic Church took control of the West.  But the Protestant reader will become overwhelmingly convinced of Schaff's objectivity by the passages included in this book.
Curiously though, his representation of the spirit of Protestantism in nineteenth-century America exhibits the crux of the problem that has hastened the progress of lawlessness.  Schaff states; "Catholicism is legal Christianity which served to the barbarian nations of the Middle Ages as a necessary school of discipline; Protestantism is evangelical Christianity which answers the age of independent manhood.  Catholicism is traditional, hierarchical, ritualistic, conservative; Protestantism is biblical, democratic, spiritual, progressive.  The former is ruled by the principle of authority, the latter by the principle of freedom.  But the law, by awakening a sense of sin and exciting a desire for redemption, leads to the gospel; parental authority is a school of freedom; filial obedience looks to manly self-government."6
Schaff's statement sounds positive and convincing.  Certainly God's Word should be heeded rather than the traditions of men.  But is democracy a more conducive environment for Christianity than the hierarchical model?  Is there a problem with ordained rituals?  Is it a benefit for the faithful to be progressive rather than conservative?  And lastly, is the principle of freedom more biblical than the principle of authority?  What is behind the spirit of Western Christianity that would lead to such conclusions?  When did the Church begin to adopt these attitudes?  And, even more importantly, where will this progressivism lead the Church?  It is the author's intent to provide enough historical background and philosophical query that the reader might find a basis for answering these questions.
The present level of indoctrination by the forces of darkness requires that some effort be made to undo the brainwashing that has demoralized society and led the Church into error.  Several chapters contain material that might seem to be off-point regarding the subject of lawlessness.  These chapters are nevertheless necessary in order to restore the objectivity of the reader.  The need to cleanse the mind will become evident as truth strips away the veil of the world's propaganda.
The intent of this book is to bring down the arguments that have exalted themselves against the knowledge of Christ.  The author's prayer is that by the power of the Holy Spirit, this book might be used to expose spiritual systems of wickedness, and to free Western Christians from their deception.
"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled." - II Cor. 10:4-6

Don't judge this book by it's cover, but by it's content. The author examines past and present biblical, historical, political, and theological events to reveal the causes behind the current age of lawlessness. A scholarly work that I found to be well documented, but not beyond the understanding of the average person.

Dark Freedom unearths the prepared ground for the appearance of the Son of Perdition, the lawless one as predicted by Jesus Christ and Revelations of John. Christian philosopher C.W. Steinle studied 3 millennia of philosophers, church and secular history and all kinds of thinkers, both within and outside the Church. Rooted in ancient Greek philosophers such as Plato and Socrates is dualism and a search for a proper way to govern a city, region or land. Much of it found its way into church teachings, laws and governance structure. Steinle shows the devaluation of the papal office throughout time, the way Reformation preachers like Jan Hus, Martin Luther, Zwingli, tried to counter this movement.
Humanism, Enlightenment up to modern relativism, seeker-friendly services in which 'law' has been replaced by 'grace only' all influence the way Christians look at abiding to the laws of God and stay holy. Church fathers, divine rights of kings, and removing the Judeo-Christian roots from U.S. constitutions and laws are unmasked in Dark Freedom. The freedom, peace and laws God gave to us are meant to practice every day. Hours and hours of valuable insights!

After the Destruction of American Babylon

Understanding the Communist Party plan for world domination.

A Special Message to Followers in Ukraine and Greece

At the present hour Christians must honor the nations that are standing for righteousness and godly values.  The Atlantic nations were, for a time, a bastion for Christian discipleship.  But now they have "become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!" - Revelation 18:2.  Russia, on the other hand, appears to be upholding Christian values, and Aleksandr Dugin's hierarchical Eurasia model is the best biblical model of government.

America has been turned into the Great Harlot of Revelation just so all the nations of the world will come together for one hour to destroy her by fire.

"For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled." - Revelation 17:17

There may be an evil scheme behind the forces of evil that have turned America into the Great Harlot of Revelation.  America may have been "groomed" to become Mystery Babylon so that the world will be justified in Her destruction.  Granted, America has confused freedom in Christ with human libertarianism.  But there may also be an intricate conspiracy behind Her demise.

The best way to explain the possible conspiracy is to include my summary of Anatoliy Golitsyn's report on the "General Line" developed by the KGB around 1960.  The most important part to understand is that, after the "convergence" and the destruction of America, the underground Communist Party will be free to morph back into fully-Atheistic-Marxism.  This means that, at some time in the future, the entire Old-World will be turned into a wicked and lawless society on a scale with America today.

Here's what to expect - After America has been destroyed.

I will probably be persecuted and never make it out of Babylon.  So I am writing this now so that the Old World might understand the long-term plan of the General Line.  Near the end of this excerpt the Eastern European reader will begin to understand why this plan may come back to the Old World after the New World has been destroyed.  Here follows an excerpt from Dark Freedom: The Rise of Western Lawlessness.

Perestroika Deception
Online PDF

In 1995, Golitsyn and Christopher Story co-authored a second book, The Perestroika Deception.137 By that time, 94% of the predictions made in New Lies for Old had been fulfilled.  Both of Golitsyn's books quickly went out of print and have not been republished.   Christopher Story was assassinated in 2010 while investigating the Knights of Malta.  (As a side note: The Knights of Malta were a continuation of the Knights Hospitallers.  During the nineteenth century the Knights of Malta received 90% of their income from St. Petersburg, Russia.)
We will now examine Golitsyn's knowledge of the Communists' General Line, including some specifics on how the plan has been carried out to-date.  Then we will note Golitsyn's predictions which are either in progress, or yet to be fulfilled.  The accuracy of Golitsyn's inside knowledge of the Communist goals, and his methods for extrapolating the plans of the underground Politburo/KGB into the future, are undisputable.
In the two years prior to Anatoliy's defection, from 1958 to 1960, the KGB and Politburo worked to improve the cause of global Communisms.  The General Line might be thought of as the Communist Party Line, a platform similar to America's Democrat and Republican Party Lines.  However, the General Line was a permanent plan that didn't change every four years.  The General Line defined a general strategy by which the Communist agenda would advance.  The tactical plans of the party could be altered as future circumstances might require.  The General Line attempted to address the mistakes made by Stalin and Lenin, and to adopt the Leninist dialectic approach in order to overcome obstacles; particularly, the West's growing anti-Communist sentiment.
The strategy was influenced by Chinese General Sun Tzu's book, The Art of War.138 Two of Tzu's keys to victory in war were adopted as the basis for Communist campaign of world domination: Appear to be weak and make the enemy think they are strong; and, Have a secret plan that doesn't change - the enemy will lose because they don't know the plan.  The secret General Line was not to be changed.  But tactics could be altered as needed to ensure the achievement of the overall goals.  One of the primary goals was to condemn the repressive Stalinist approach to government.  The strategists realized that hard-line Communism was repulsive to the rest of the world and was deterring the spread of Communism.  Their tactical response was to give Communism a more acceptable image.
The initial objectives of the General Line called for a restructuring - "Perestroika."  It is obvious to any historian that leaders of an empire like the U.S.S.R. have never simply announced that they were going to release all of the nations within their control.  Westphalia came after decades of bloody battle.  What if the United States Congress suddenly announced that the U.S.A. would no longer be a union and all of the states were free to govern themselves?  But the U.S.S.R. had a dissolution without a revolution.  The Perestroika came from the inside out - it was a top-down decision.  The Communists wanted to tickle the ears of the West by giving the appearance that capitalism had triumphed over socialism.
But the West didn't know the secret plan that the KGB and Politburo would continue to control the so-called independent republics of the former U.S.S.R.  The Party even created dissidents and opposition parties to give the impression that free forces were at work within the new republics.
"The Soviet media portray Party-controlled strikes, demonstrations and disturbances in different parts of the USSR as real, domestic and nationalist outbreaks pointing to the disintegration and perhaps the collapse of the Soviet Empire.  Orchestrated disputes between phony reformers and phony conservatives are reported as real struggles within the Party."139

Then they replaced the hardliner image of Communism, giving it a human face by appointing the cheerful and relaxed Gorbachev.
"Gorbachev and his strategists are not true democrats and never will be. They remain committed to socialism and Communism. They are a new generation of revolutionaries who are using 'democratic' reform as a new way to achieve final victory. The Communist strategists appreciated that they could not implement their strategy of convergence using the old, obsolete, Stalinist, Communist Party structure and dormant institutions like the old Soviet parliament. But they do believe that they can carry it out using new, revitalized, 'democratic' structures.  They are therefore reorganizing the Party system, the Presidency and the legislature to give them more power and prestige and at the same time greater likeness to their American equivalents.  Meanwhile, the Communist Party is apparently relegated to the shadows. The Communist Party, however, has not surrendered its real monopoly of power.  In fact, it has broadened it by giving power to its members in the Presidency and Congress to execute the strategy of 'perestroika' and convergence.  Greater Presidential powers are needed to carry out the strategy throughout the world. This is not a transfer of power from the Party to the President.  The President remains a member and an instrument of the Party, the executor of its strategy."140

Another hallmark of Communism was the "class-struggle."  In the introduction of the Communist Manifesto, Marx asserted that the entirety of human history was the story of class struggle.  One of the tactics of the General Line was to discontinue the argument of class struggle because of its negative connotations in the western mind.  The Communists also wanted to silence the anti-communist voices of the West by making anti-communists appear to be radicals.
"The paramount global objective of the strategy of 'perestroika' is to weaken and neutralize anti-Communist ideology and the influence of anti-Communists in political life in the United States, Western Europe and elsewhere - presenting them as anachronistic survivors of the Cold War, reactionaries and obstacles to 'restructuring' and peace."141

Without doubt, the most effective and subtle strategy in winning the world to Communism was the reforming of both the U.S.S.R. and the Atlantic nations.  The process of cross-assimilation of Communism and Capitalism was called "Convergence."  While the Communists were taking on the appearance of Capitalism and openness, the West was to be gradually socialized.  Under the section heading of "CONVERGENCE THROUGH TACTICAL CHANGES AND DISINFORMATION," Golitsyn explains the tactics of disinformation.
Now, the purpose of the intensified disinformation on 'conservative' resistance to Gorbachev's reforms and on the Yeltsin affair is to win Western support for further arguments in favour of convergence and to widen the gap between genuine conservatives and liberals in the United States.
The rationale of this disinformation is that that there are two sorts of people: those who recognise change and seek to promote it, and those who oppose it - the implication being that those who oppose it are 'enemies of progress and peace', 'cold warriors', etc. This was the explanation given by Gorbachev to the prominent Soviet expert Marshall Shulman at a White House reception.  Gorbachev added that 'we have both kinds of people in both our countries'.

"In this way Gorbachev gave evidence of his intention to project and promote Soviet strategy through influential American intellectuals.  There are indications that the dismissal of Yeltsin as head of the Moscow Party organisation was prearranged, timed and publicised by giving Mr Dan Rather permission to interview him on the subject, on the Central Broadcasting System one month in advance of Gorbachev's visit to the United States.  The purpose of that specific disinformation was further to exaggerate the alleged pressure being brought to bear on Gorbachev by Soviet 'conservatives' (to whom Gorbachev was under latent pressure to defer), to highlight the role of both Soviet and American conservatives as obstacles to reform and 'progress' and to create favourable conditions for an alliance between Soviet and American liberals for the intended purpose of the 'restructuring' of both societies."142

Russia discontinued its rhetoric on the benefits of Communism, and the Communist Movement and leadership went underground.  They seem to have followed the playbook of the European royalty after authoritarian government was no longer accepted by the Humanist population of Europe.  According to Golitsyn, the Communist Party and the KGB will continue to move forward with the plans of the General Line until World Communism is established.
Golitsyn points out that Communists make a distinction between the democratic form of government and "democratization."
"The deployment of controlled 'political opposition' has rendered possible the introduction of deceptive 'non-Communist' and 'democratic' structures.  Even so called free elections do not present a problem for the Communist Parties.  Because of their secret partnership with the 'opposition', the Communist Parties are always in a winning situation.  It is their candidates - Communist or 'non-Communist - who always win.  No other truly independent candidates exist."

"This is the new statecraft of the Communist Parties and their security services: it is a new form for developing socialism.  Its introduction allows the communist Parties to broaden their political base and, in accordance with a decision of the 22nd Party Congress in October 1961, to replace the outlived concept of the 'dictatorship of the proletariat' with the new concept of 'the state of the whole people' while maintaining their power and strengthening their actual leading role.  The Communists have succeeded in concealing from the West that the 'non- Communist' parties are secret partners of the Communists, not alternatives or rivals to them, and that the new power structures, though they have democratic form, are in reality more viable and effective structures introduced and guided by Communist Parties with a broader base. . .  The West fails to understand the controlled nature of the emergence of 'independent' Republics in Eastern Europe and in the Baltic and Trans-Caucasian regions of the Soviet Empire. The West fears that the growing 'independence' of these Republics will lead to the dissolution of the Empire, and to anarchy and chaos. But a key to the understanding of this emergent 'independence' lies in Lenin's experience with the creation of formally 'independent' Far Eastern and Georgian Republics, which secretly coordinated their policies with Lenin's government in Moscow."143

Other tactics explained by Golitsyn's books are listed below.  Most, but not all, of these predictions have become reality:
  • The use of western capitalism as a means to influence the west though business partnerships.
  • To encourage joint partnerships with wealthy nations to spread socialist ideals, to enrich the Communist Bloc financially and gain access to western technology.
  • Infiltrate Europe and guide it toward socialism.
  • Infiltrate Western Intelligence agencies.
  • Create a European Social State (union) as a western buffer.
  • Estrange the American people from their leaders.
  • Demoralization of the American public through immorality campaigns.
  • Disarm the West by appearing weak.
  • Weaken the US so that they would eventually withdraw from NATO.
  • NATO would dissolve by the year 2000.
  • Eventual manifest destiny of Communism from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
  • One World Socialist Government.
  • Appear open to Christianity/Intellectuals/even dissenters (Implemented by inviting evangelists like Billy Graham; freeing the Jews to leave; and releasing intellectuals who had been imprisoned.)
"There must be no let-up in the war against religion because as long as religion exists Communism cannot prevail.  We must intensify the obliteration of all religions wherever they are being practiced or taught": statement by Mikhail Gorbachev on 15 December 1987 to a group of Communist Party officials, cadres and Soviet military personnel in Uzbekistan.  With his wife Raisa, Gorbachev is a disciple of the late Sardinian Communist Antonio Gramsci - the Marxist proponent of a policy of active social demoralization (attack against morality) and the Marxisation of religion."144

Keep in mind that Golitsyn had documented most of his knowledge of the Communists' Party Line, their tactics, and his own predictions by 1968.  Below is a short list of his predictions that have been fulfilled -  predictions which seemed impossible 50 years ago.  These goals were all part of the first phases of the Communist plan.
  • Fall of the Berlin wall and the unification of Germany.
  • The socialization of Europe.
  • The socialization of the United States.
  • The demoralization of western culture.
  • Convergence with Communism by socializing the West and the concurrent appearance of Capitalism and decentralization in the Communist nations.
  • Weakened state of U.S. military, eliminating its superiority.
  • The rise of Russian and Chinese military capabilities.
"China and the USSR have both recovered from their crises, have consolidated their regimes and have emerged as serious rivals to the United States.  The United States has slipped into military parity with the USSR while the USSR has developed into a superpower threatening the United States and Western Europe. China is emerging as another potential superpower which, together with the USSR, will swing the world balance of military power, particularly in respect of conventional forces, in favour of the Communists. . .145
Once strengthened economically with Western help, China and the USSR will join together in an offensive to exploit any severe economic depression which might afflict the American economy.  They will exert all kinds of pressure including interference in American affairs, blackmail, economic manipulations, the threat of sabotage, for example, of nuclear power stations, and assassinations."146

It should never be forgotten that the ultimate objective of Soviet strategy is not 'perestroika' in the USSR but the 'restructuring' of the American political and economic systems including the 'military-industrial complex'. . ."147

Golitsyn expressed in The Perestroika Deception that if President Reagan visited Russia and recognized the Restructuring as an actual breakdown of the Communist Movement, the execution of the General Line would become unstoppable at that point in time.
"The central purpose of the third grand strategy and its final phase of 'perestroika' is to renew the regimes in the USSR and other Communist countries and to convert them into states of 'mature socialism with a human face'.  But the strategy goes beyond domestic restructuring and is aimed at the peaceful and non-peaceful conquest of the United States and Western Europe from within."148

Below is a summary of the final stage of the Communist plan for world domination. (Present day examples have been added so that the reader might recognize that this final stage is already underway.)
  • Europe and the U.S. firmly embrace socialism.
  • NATO and U.S. military weakened.
  • Re-introduction of the class struggle conversation. (99%'ers and the vilification of the Rich.)
  • Demoralization of the West (abortion, humanism, evolution, breakdown and redefinition of marriage.)  (Pushing of immorality on the U.S. and the world by Obama's administration, the courts, and the media.)
  • Intentional estrangement of the American people from their leaders. (Obama's administration, and the judges)
Only two of Golitsyn's predictions have failed to transpire; which have either stalled, or else the expected participants have been reluctant to cooperate.  But there is no way to know at this time if the 'powers that be' are merely putting on the appearance of a good fight.  These last two predictions are the withdrawal of the U.S. from NATO, and the dissolution of NATO.  NATO and Russia are jockeying for strategic position to protect their respective territories.  Russia appears to be losing control over the Eastern European Bloc.  The U.S. and NATO appear to be gaining influence by taking the control over the elections that Golitsyn claimed were under the control of the Politburo.  Time will tell whether Brussels or Moscow will end up becoming the capital of the coming One World government.
As much as Christians would like to believe that President Putin's cross and his support for the Russian Orthodox Church is real, it is likely only part of the Convergence.  The Convergence model would call for the actual de-Christianization of the West; and the apparent Christianization of Russia.  Convergence would also call for the abolishment of biblical values in the West, and the apparent enforcement of biblical values in Russia. (This is exactly what we saw in Russia's well publicized stand against homosexuality during the Olympics.)  Golitsyn's predictions have been too true-to-life to ignore in this area of religion.  Christianity is on the rise under Putin's administration, but the former Communists had no problem killing tens of thousands of Christians in the early twentieth century.  After Russia accomplishes its goal of worldwide Communism, it may have to go back and re-conquer its own Christian population.] - excerpt from the chapter, "International Lawlessness - The Nations Rage", Dark Freedom: The Rise of Western Lawlessness
